Prince Edward in Germany observed The Royal Wessex Yeomanry's annual training exercise

In his role as the Royal Honorary Colonel of The Royal Wessex Yeomanry, The Earl of Wessex arrived in Germany today to visit the Regiment during their annual training in Sennelager.

During their two-weeks training in Germany, the soldiers have live fired machine guns, undertaken driving courses and their Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank crews have been able to train in an unfamiliar training environment.

The Royal Wessex Yeomanry (RWxY) is a Reserve armoured regiment of the British Army Reserve which consists of five squadrons. The regiment was formerly part of the 43 (Wessex) Brigade, but joined the 3rd (UK) Division in July 2014, with the task of providing armoured battle tank support to the three armoured regiments.

In 2015 the Regiment was again transferred from the Operational Command of 3rd (UK) Division to 1st Armoured Infantry Brigade.

Prince Edward is not only Honorary Colonel of The Royal Wessex Yeomanry he also holds other honorary military appointments. These include Royal Honorary Colonel of The London Regiment, Honorary Air Commodore of Royal Air Force Waddington, Royal Colonel of 2nd Battalion The Rifles and Commodore in Chief of The Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

Whilst away in Germany, Edward’s wife, the Countess of Wessex, is currently undertaking a two-day visit to Cornwall. During her visit to the county, Sophie is due to visit a drug and alcohol addiction centre and a fish and chip shop amongst other engagements.
