Princess Anne concludes week-long visit to Peru

The Princess Royal has concluded a weeklong visit to Peru in which she attended the International Olympic Committee’s sessions in Lima, officially awarding the 2024 Olympic Games to Paris and the 2028 Olympics to Los Angeles.

Princess Anne arrived at Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport on Tuesday 12th September and was greeted by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Peru, His Excellency Anwar Choudhury.

A couple of days later, Her Royal Highness attended an International Olympic Committee Members Election Commission, to recruit new IOC members. In her role as a member of the IOC, Princess Anne is part of a team who chooses new IOC members with different sets of skills and knowledge while ensuring balance in terms of gender and geography.

In 1988 Princess Anne became a member of the International Olympic Committee and has been on the IOC Members Election Committee since 2015, as well as being President of the British Olympic Association.

She was involved in London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games and was the Director of the London Organizing Committee for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Before the London 2012 Olympic Games, she accepted the Olympic flame in Athens on behalf of London and brought it back to Britain for its relay of the country.

On Thursday evening, Her Royal Highness attended a Dinner given by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Peru at his Residence in Lima.

The following day, Friday 15th September, The Queen’s daughter continued working on her task from the previous day, attending meetings at the International Olympic Committee Members Election Commission.

On Saturday, in addition to her duties with the IOC, the Princess Royal conducted a number of engagements in Lima.

In the afternoon, she visited the International Potato Centre in Lima. The centre was established in 1971 by the Peruvian government and seeks to reduce poverty and achieve food security on a sustained basis in developing countries. It does this through scientific research on potatoes and other root and tuber crops.

Later in the day, the Princess unveiled a commemorative statue to Admiral Guise in Plaza Grau.

In the evening, Her Royal Highness attended a dinner hosted by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Peru in aid of the Vine Trust, of which Princess Anne is Patron. Vine Trust is an international development charity which provides medical, home-building and care support to poverty-struck communities in Tanzania and Peru.

On Sunday, the Princess Royal’s work with the Vine Trust continued as she attended a Reception at Nanay Naval Base, Iquitos.

In the afternoon, she visited Oran Village and subsequently toured MV FORTH HOPE.

In the evening, she departed from Jorge Chávez International Airport for the United Kingdom.
